An “Internet of Rules” (IoR) is created when algorithms can be transmitted efficiently and flexibly from any independent source repositories within which they are maintained, to any applications that would use them.

Xalgo is a globally consistent and unambiguous method for expressing computational algorithms. Each rule expressed in Xalgo is composed of tables and series of operations on tables.

A rule package has five elements: expression in Xalgo form (tables & operators); a URL; a DOI; versioning; and copyright/license info in RDF.

Lichen is designed to accomplish just one thing, but with enormous effect. It will provide any commerce platform an efficient means of access to trusted algorithms maintained by any authority.

Lichen’s versatility lends itself to diverse applications, and under free/libre/open licensing, anyone can adapt it to any purpose.

Lichen adopts the Universal Business Language library (UBL; ISO/IEC 19845) for its naming, definition and structuring of data, and for its business document taxonomy.

The ‘upstream’ processes which prime a payment are well-defined by UBL. The ‘downstream’ processes that perform the payment are well-defined by ISO 20022.

Xalgorithms is implementing two extensions to UBL, to include document-version history and associated change traceability.

At this time, during our ‘alpha’ development phase, the Lichen client can be installed on Android devices only. Distributions for iOS and desktops are coming soon.

Lichen will provide a way for existing solution providers to offer their clients more elegant algorithmic commerce.

To optimize the utility of the Internet of Rules for early adopters, Xalgorithms Alliance is implementing valuable resources and infrastructure.

Developers & Researchers participate in business and technical research towards the experimental development and deployment of an Internet of Rules. These individuals or organizations pay a moderate fee to support basic member services.

R&D Donors provide grants and contributions supporting business and technical research towards the experimental development and deployment of an Internet of Rules.

Board Members & External Advisors are invited to provide consultative assistance towards the development and deployment of an Internet of Rules.

Xalgorithms respects demand-side user freedoms (FSF), and supply-side developer principles (OSI).
